Volk Psychiatry is a private outpatient psychiatric practice located in the South Hills region of Pittsburgh, PA.

We serve individuals age 18 and older.

We provide psychiatric medication management and psychotherapy at every visit.

We offer same-day crisis appointments for current patients.

David W. Volk, MD, PhD
Dr. Volk completed medical school at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and psychiatry residency training at Western Psychiatric Hospital. He is a licensed psychiatrist in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and maintains current board certification through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Volk and his wife, Christine Volk, PA-C, founded Volk Psychiatry in 2022. Dr. Volk serves as the supervising physician of Volk Psychiatry. Dr. Volk has worked as a psychiatrist in a psychiatric emergency department for over 14 years. In this setting, he gained expertise in treating a wide spectrum of psychiatric illness across a broad range of ages in patients who were in acute crisis.

Dr. Volk also has a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh where he studied alterations in brain chemistry and structure that underlie serious psychiatric illness, including depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed publications in top scientific journals. He has also published numerous book chapters in leading psychiatry and neuroscience textbooks and has given scientific lectures at prestigious academic centers including Harvard University and Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Volk’s decades-long expertise in studying psychiatric illness at the cellular and molecular level have lead to the development of his neuroscience-informed treatment practices in psychiatry.
Christine L.E. Volk, PA-C
Christine is a graduate of Slippery Rock University and completed the Master of Physician Assistant Studies program at Chatham University. She is a licensed physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and maintains current certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She additionally holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Psychiatry from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Christine has over 20 years of experience in outpatient clinical practice, including psychiatry, family practice, geriatrics, and pediatrics. In all of these settings, she has treated a wide variety of psychiatric illnesses across the lifespan. Christine’s primary clinical interests include the treatment of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and stress responses to life changes and transitions.
In addition to her clinical interests in psychiatry, Christine has voluntarily served on numerous medical teams in Mexico, Central, and South America over the course of her career. These teams serve the needs of people living in remote, poverty-stricken villages that would otherwise have no access to medical care. This service has reinforced Christine's compassionate approach to individuals who are suffering from physical and/or psychological illness.

Insurance and Fees
We currently participate with Blue Cross Blue Shield and UPMC Health Plan commercial products.
​
We do not participate with Medicare or Medicaid products including UPMC for You, UPMC for Life, Highmark Medicare Advantage and Highmark Wholecare.
​
Our private payment fees are $350 for an initial psychiatric evaluation and $220 for follow-up visits, which include medication management and psychotherapy.
​
Our practice has longer appointment times, immediate and flexible scheduling, same-day/next-day crisis appointments for existing patients, and rapid response times to patient communication via our patient portal.
​
Volk Psychiatry also charges a $25 monthly concierge fee to cover various costs and services that are not covered by insurance plans, such as filling out forms, etc.​
